Choose the destination before choosing the interchange

Nijo Castle: distinguish Nijo from Nijojo-mae
The official Nijo Castle route uses the JR Sagano Line to Nijo, a transfer to the Tozai Subway Line, and an exit from the train at Nijojo-mae.[12] Nijo is the interchange in this sequence; Nijojo-mae is the subway destination. Keep both names in your saved plan. The route description does not establish a same-platform transfer, a particular exit or the walking distance to whichever castle entrance is open for your visit.

Do not assume that every Higashiyama visit should use one station, that your incoming train stops at Yamashina, or that a transfer can be made without checking the station layout and ticket arrangements.
